QuickTime is likely the most popular file format for online movies and other content. Click the icon to download the free QuickTime Player.
QuickTime Pro allows you a LOT more features including recording, editing, exporting to a huge list of file formats. At $30 it is a real good deal. Editing in QuickTime Pro (audio and video) is as easy as it gets.

Also, get the Flip4Mac plug-in so you can play Windows Media files in Quicktime
